最惆悵也最浪漫的愛---《Before Sunrise》/《Before Sunset》

I’ve soaked myself in these two films for an entire week since I saw them. These two films had been made 9 years apart but I saw them just within 3 days. I would say 《Before Sunset》is my preference rather than 《Before Sunrise》if I have to make a subjective comparison.


To be honest, I guess 《Before Sunset》 has become my all time favorite films No.1 so far. Why do I love this film directed by Richard Linklater in particular? Perhaps, it makes me have a sense of being able to distinguish what “love” can be like from an instinctively pure desire and a much more complicated relationship with someone you think you should love. Notice that I said someone whom you think “you should love”.


I kind of feel that the truly great movies regarding the topic “LOVE” must be somewhat cruel and inevitably reflect the reality that people always figure out how much they have lost only when they finally become honest to themselves and their love. Regrettably, you would end up feeling romantic but painful at the same time.


That’s what love is in terms of my understanding from those two great movies.



It'd be the most interesting scene I like in 《Before Sunrise》(1995/Vienna). When you are still young, you reveal what you feel without pressure because you are free you don't take any responsibility.







As far as I'm concerned, the most touching scene in 《Before Sunset》(2004/Paris) is the woman Celine sings a song written by herself in front of the man Jesse near the ending. You'll know why I love it if you've seen the two serial movies.
